Sorry the email (now blog post) is late – I’ve been at a conference…and lo and behold, in one of the sessions, the speaker spoke about…yep…you guessed it…sexual purity!! Here’s what he said…
The speaker, Chris Chia from Singapore, outlined the reasons, from 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, why we should pursue sexual purity.
(A note first – when the Apostle Paul here talks about the “body”, he means the entirety of our humanity, in other words body AND spirit and soul and mind and whatever else.)
- The REDEMPTION reason – Christ died for your body!! You should treat it accordingly (v13b; 19)
- The RESURRECTION reason – Christ rose for your body!! If you are a follower of Jesus, your body is destined for resurrection, like Jesus – get ready (v14)
- The CREATION reason – God created your body!! You should honour Him by living how He designed you to live (v15)
- The SANCTIFICATION reason – the Holy Spirit lives in your body!! The Holy Spirit is working in you to make you more like Christ – cooperate!! (v19)
I pray that that connects with you and God uses this to inspire and motivate you in your battle. Let me pray now…
Father, for all of my brothers receiving this email right now, would you give them strength to face their temptations when it comes to sexual purity. Thank You Lord for the plans you have for each of us, the incredible plans You have!! It gets so hard to live a sexually pure life in this sex-saturated culture in which we live, so we ask You, God of the universe, to fill us with Your Spirit so we may stand strong against the enemy’s attempts to knock us off the path towards sexual purity. Thank You for this, Your Word today that reminds us of our destiny in You. May You lodge it deep in the hearts of all who read it this day. In the name of Jesus we ask this, our Hero, our Lord, our Saviour…Amen
