It was encouraging to see so many of you sign up to continue to fight for God's plan for your life and engage in the battle for sexual purity. The battle is tough, but it's definitely a case of power in numbers. Let's fight together.
We'll likely be running the Every Young Man's Battle (EYMB) program in term 3. That's a way off from now, so we thought it would be good to start up a weekly email and blog that will encourage us all to persevere in the fight.
Let me remind you of two things from the DVDs that we watched:
- 'Starve the Sumo'
Sumos get fat because they eat a lot. It's the same with our sex drives, men! The more we feed it, the bigger it gets. And it feeds on pictures, movies, images, whatever it can get ahold of. You may be thinking that it's so big that to try and stop it now is a major impossibility. Not so!! Starve the Sumo. Job (a dude from the Bible) said "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl." (Job 31:1) He discovered the power of starving the sumo. So can I encourage you to starve your eyes of any and all images that feed your sex drive? Have you got posters on your wall? Rip them down! Do you struggle with the Internet when you're home alone? Get out of the house! Do you scan the TV guide for MA rated movies on SBS?
It's time to quit. Starve the Sumo. Remove the food. Bounce your eyes. Fight!
- Power in Numbers
Accountability is key! Call a mate, phone a friend, get someone by your side. Fight together. The Bible says "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:12) This is a great metaphor for what we're talking about here. Find a mate that you can trust, that you can share fight with, who'll ask you the tough questions and who you can ask the tough questions of.
This may be the hardest step for you, but it is also the most important. I can't tell you how much I've valued having friends in my life who I can trust in this way. So go do it now!

I'll finish with this awesome verse to encourage you in your fight: "put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." (Eph 6:13) Read all of Ephesians 6:10-20 for more.
