The Battle for Purity

Welcome to the Battle for Purity!

This is our blog about fighting the battle of God's plan for our sexuality. It's primarily for younger guys who want to have God's plan for their sexuality reinforced in their lives, although others may benefit as well. You can read it in a number of ways, including:

Table of contents for the Battle

A few people i've talked to lately have needed a broad overview of the Bible's approach to sexual purity, so i thought i would consolidate a few of the resources we've put here on the blog.

Statistics on male spirituality from George Barna

In an older podcast episode, Stephen Arterburn quotes some profoundly disturbing statisics from a George Barna study.  Women are:

  • 100% more likely than men to be involved in a discipleship program
  • 46% more likely than men to spiritually mentor someone
  • 39% more likely than men to spend time alone reading their Bible or praying
  •  29% more likely than men to share their faith

Why do you think that is?  What holds men back from spiritual leadership?

Every Man's Battle podcast

A few people have asked me about podcast resources.  I've recently found out that Every Man's Battle have moved their podcast.  Check it out at newlifeaudio.com.

Where lack of self-control can take you

Stories like the recent Matthew Johns debacle seem a dime a dozen these days. The biggest lesson i take out of them is: be on your guard, because what you can lose in a situation like the one Johns now admits to is far more than you can ever gain.  What other food for thought does it serve up?  Comments welcome!

Art of Manliness article on porn

Art of Manliness recently posted a great article about why you shouldn't use porn. Check it out!

Mark Sayers on "sexy"

Mark Sayers' latest blog post, Beneath the Surface of “Sexy”. The Cautionary Tale of Brigitte Bardot, has some great thoughts on what society sees as the meaning of "sexy", and what implications it has when someone can be called "sexy" no longer.

Andy Stanley on purity

Andy Stanley has some great practical tips in this message on wisdom from the perspective of sexuality: http://media.northpointministries.org/northpointministries/podcasts/andystanley/bqe/bqe_pt3b.mp3

Getting started with self-accountability

A number of things have converged in my life in the past year or so that have led me to work on my self-discipline:

  • Firstly, reading Every Man's Battle convinced me that:
    • my self-discipline was severely lacking, and
    • it was actually both possible and desirable to have it!
